Oily Skin in the Summer

The months are heating up, the humidity is going to be increasing, and that means oily skin may be on the horizon for you. A mistake that people with oily skin sometimes make is washing the face too often. You should not wash your face more than twice daily. More than twice daily stimulates the skin to produce more oil (“rebound oil production”). Therefore, try to stick with washing every morning and evening.

Clarifying products help to control oils so use a wash with active ingredients such as Salicylic Acid (which is exfoliating; therefore, decreasing the clogging of pores). Retinols are great products to help control oils but can increase sun sensitivity. You do not have to stop using your Retinol product during the summer, but you MUST use a daily sunscreen.

If you are just naturally prone to oily skin, and in the warmer months it gets even worse, always carry a powder compact with you. There is no harm in touching up throughout the day if you feel your skin is looking too shiny. If you’re going to be out in the sun all day, use minimal makeup so it doesn’t take on a ‘cake-y’ look.
